Let's cultivate respect for the earth, invest in the future of the planet
We are an environmentally friendly facility, we strive for zero impact and preserve biodiversity
Poggio Foco grows 98 percent of Tuscany’s medicinal herb varieties and 3 percent of Europe’s medicinal plants.
Ours was one of the first farms in Maremma to start a green path linked to the
concept of eco-sustainability involving all its activities: agriculture, livestock and
agritourism.
From day one, and thus for over 40 years, Poggio Foco’s activities have been inspired by the ideal
of the
organic farming. All activities, including breeding are certified organic.
We strive to minimize environmental impact:
- Underground power lines.
- Photovoltaic panels covering most of the farm’s needs.
- Solar panels for hot water.
- Taps with aerators, for water saving.
- Separate waste collection in both apartments and businesses
- Outdoor lighting of the Village of Poggio Foco designed to avoid light pollution and encourage night time observation of our wonderful sky.
- We use LED lights to promote energy conservation.
- We collec train water for garden and farm irrigation.
- In our restaurant, dinners favor seasonal produce from our organic garden, meats, pecorino cheese and organic EVO oil from our own production.
- Salt electrolysis pool: reduces the need to store and handle traditional chlorine with fewer safety risks for maintenance workers and limits environmental impact.
- All agricultural activities are certified organic.
- Our commitment to the circular economy is also embodied in the valorization of organic waste, through the recovery of part of it as fertilizer, directly on the farm.
